Why won’t my Thermador Star burner light?
Thermador’s star-shaped burner spreads the flame over more of the pan, but it has the same weak points as any sealed gas burner. Check these first:
- Dry it out. Spills and cleaning water around the igniter stop it lighting. Give it time to dry.
- Seat the cap. The cap has to sit flat and centered on the star-shaped base, or the flame won’t catch all the way around.
- Clean the ports. With the burner cool, clear food from the ports with a soft brush.
- Check the power. If no burner sparks at all, check the breaker. The igniters need power even on gas models.
One thing that looks like a fault but isn’t: on the lowest simmer setting, Thermador’s ExtraLow feature turns the flame on and off by design to hold a very gentle heat. If the burner lights and cycles only on the lowest setting, it’s working normally.
If you smell gas, don’t light anything or touch switches. Turn the burner off, leave the house, and call your gas company or 911 from outside.
Thermador oven problems
Not heating or heating unevenly: on electric ovens this is usually a bake, broil or convection element, or the convection fan. On gas models it is often the oven igniter. If the oven heats but runs hot or cold, the temperature sensor or the calibration is the usual cause.
Door locked after self-clean: the door stays locked until the oven has cooled to a safe temperature, which can take a while after a clean cycle. If it is fully cool and still won’t unlock, the door lock motor or switch has usually failed. Don’t force the door, which can damage the latch.
Error codes: Thermador’s codes vary by model and generation. Note exactly what the display shows and tell us when you call. The meaning for your model is also in the owner’s manual on Thermador’s owner support site.
Freedom columns and Thermador dishwashers
A Freedom column running warm should first get the basics: confirm the setting, make sure the door closes and seals, and keep food away from the air vents. If it doesn’t recover within a day, the cause is usually a fan, a defrost problem or a dirty condenser, and less often the sealed system. We quote any sealed-system work in writing before it starts.
A dishwasher that won’t drain usually has a clogged filter. Remove and rinse the filter at the bottom of the tub, check the sump for broken glass or labels, and run a short cycle. If water still sits in the tub, or the display shows a fault, the drain pump or a sensor needs attention. Our dishwasher repair page covers this in more detail.

Common questions
Thermador repair in Weston, answered
Why does my Thermador burner turn on and off on low?
On the lowest setting, Thermador’s ExtraLow feature cycles the flame on and off by design to hold a gentle simmer. That is normal. If a burner won’t light at all, that is a fault worth checking.
My Thermador oven door won’t unlock after self-clean. What should I do?
Let the oven cool completely; the lock stays on until it is safe. If it is fully cool and still locked, the lock motor or switch has likely failed. Don’t force the door.
Do you repair Thermador Freedom refrigerator columns?
Yes, including warm or frosting columns, fan and defrost faults, ice makers and door seals.
My Thermador is under warranty. Should I call you?
Contact Thermador first through its owner support site. We handle repairs once the appliance is out of warranty.
